The cause of the collapse remains unknown as officials declined to provide any comments, citing a lack of clarity on the situation. Eyewitnesses reported that some workers managed to escape before the collapse occurred. An unspecified number of individuals are believed to be trapped inside, with three persons said to have sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a state-owned medical facility. Many questions have been raised for the authorities, with the most pressing being: why are building collapses happening frequently in Anambra, and who should be held accountable?” Meanwhile Officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) have visited the site of a collapsed three-story building under construction near Diamond Pizza, opposite Five Star Restaurant, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka, Anambra State. The building, said to be at the roofing level, collapsed at approximately 5:25 PM on Thursday . According to an eyewitness, Mr. Daniel, a resident in the area, said he heard a series of thunderous sounds and rushed out to investigate, only to witness the building crumbling to the ground. Rescue operations are currently ongoing, casualties already pulled from the rubble.
