So far, Hasbro’s gambit of partnering up with massive IP Magic: The Gathering crossovers has paid off, much to the chagrin of some of the playerbase. While Final Fantasy has been a massive seller for them overall, there are plenty of other franchises to mine, and records can always be broken. That could be the case, seeing some of the new set announcements coming out of Magic Con, which is being held this week in Atlanta, Georgia.
Wizards of the Coast has just revealed multiple sets coming in 2026 on X, which include the likes of Marvel Super Heroes, The Hobbit, and Star Trek. All of these will be released by the end of 2026, among some other “official” non-Universes Beyond sets.
Every Magic: The Gathering Set Coming In 2026
The Hobbit, Marvel, And Star Trek Are The Big Ones
In a shocking move, Wizards of the Coast laid out their entire slate for 2026, which will include multiple IP-based Universes Beyond sets, as well as traditional Magic planes. The festivities kick off in January with Lorwyn Eclipsed.
January 2026 – Lorwyn Eclipsed
First released in 2007, Lorwyn is a classic set that draws inspiration from Celtic myths. There are plenty of beautiful creatures and vistas that abound, which should make for some killer art.
Q1 2026 – Universes Beyond (Unannounced)
Wizards is being coy about what this set is, so expect more details either later this year or next. At this point, nearly every IP is on the table.
April 2026 – Secrets of Strixhaven
Strixhaven debuted in 2021, and deals with a magical school setting. It was a fan favorite among many players, and the massive setting, which comprises five magic-based colleges, is ripe for exploration all over again.
June 2026 – (Marvel Super Heroes)
We knew more Marvel sets were coming, and it seems like Wizards is going to do a massive Earth’s Mightiest Heroes-style set this time, with tons of different Marvel characters beyond the realm of Spider-Man. Scarlet Witch, Wolverine, Black Panther, She-Hulk, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, and many more characters have all been confirmed so far.
August 2026 – The Hobbit
We went there, and now it’s time to go back…again…to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Wizards is extending its partnership with the Middle-earth rights holders to revisit this literary classic, focusing on The Hobbit instead of the sprawling Lord of the Rings epic.
October 2026 – Reality Fracture
Like the secret early 2026 Universes Beyond set, this one is still under wraps. Expect more info next year as we get closer to October 2026.
November 2026 – Star Trek
Well, they did it. Dr. Who managed to sneak into Magic: The Gathering, and now it’s time for another sci-fi franchise to step up to the plate. Characters confirmed so far include Spock and Captain James T. Kirk.
Universes Beyond Continues To Dominate The Set Schedule
We’re Getting At Least Four In 2026
Despite all the discourse surrounding it from the community, Wizards of the Coast is showing no signs of backing off from Universes Beyond crossovers. They seem to generate so much revenue that Hasbro doesn’t want to stop, and based on my recent time with the developers at Wizards of the Coast’s Headquarters, the creative team clearly enjoys making them.
In any case, there are “traditional” Magic: The Gathering sets out in 2026 to play with, as well as multiple other formats on top of Magic Arena. Hopefully, none of these sets run into Arena licensing issues like the Spider-Man set did.
