Maino addressed 50 Cent’s recent remarks during an appearance on Way Up With Angela Yee, responding after 50 took to social media and labeled Maino and his Let’s Rap About podcast co-hosts “squatters” who allegedly owe $250,000.
Angela Yee opened the conversation by saying she woke up confused by the online chatter, noting that 50 Cent appeared to be reacting to a clip from the podcast.
Maino explained that the discussion was never meant to target anyone directly.
“We don’t talk about people,” he said. “We take things and internalize it. It was a general conversation about do people have the actual right to make a documentary about you and how would you feel if it was you.” He added that creating a documentary to make someone look weak feels wrong, calling it “petty behavior.”
When it came to the squatters claim, Maino flatly denied it.
“I don’t know nothing about that,” he said when asked about owing money. Pressed further, he repeated, “I don’t know what he talking about,” making it clear he was unaware of any unpaid rent.
Still, Maino acknowledged how things can be perceived once names are attached.
“If you shooting and you saying they and these guys and you got a picture and I’m in a picture, I’m shooting back,” he said. “If it’s smoke, it’s smoke.” Despite the tension, Maino says that their podcast is about themselves, adding, “We make it about ourselves,” not about tearing others down.
