The Super Eagles star has been a regular for Sevilla in pre-season, but he has suffered a significant setback

Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke suffered a muscle injury during a training session before Sevilla’s pre-season friendly against Marseille on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Coming into this summer, there were speculations that Ejuke could leave Los Nervionenses after a difficult debut campaign that saw him contribute two goals and one assist in 25 games.

The former Royal Antwerp man struggled for game time at different stretches of the season and had to cope with injury problems.

He even lost his place to Ruben Vargas who joined the club during the winter transfer window.

But despite the speculations, Ejuke has gotten a lot of minutes in pre-season. In fact, he played all 90 minutes in their first three pre-season games against Wydad Casablanca, Birmingham City, and Sunderland.

The Super Eagles star was supposed to be part of the squad for their game against Marseille on Saturday at Stade Velodrome. He even traveled with the rest of his teammates.

However, hours before the game, Sevilla announced that Ejuke had sustained a muscle injury.

When will Chidera Ejuke return to action for Sevilla

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Ejuke suffered a myofascial injury to the adductor longus of his right thigh, and that will keep him sidelined for ten days.

This means that he should be good to go before their LaLiga opener against Athletic Bilbao on August 17.

Still, this is not the first time that Ejuke will be suffering a muscle injury. So, Sevilla will treat the matter delicately to prevent a reoccurence. As such, he might be rested for the Bilbao game.

He will look to bounce back well and help Los Nervionenses push for a good position in the LaLiga next season.
