Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday ended his annual leave earlier than planned to personally attend the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, which is being held today (Friday).

Makinde, who was scheduled to be away until September 29, notified the House of Assembly of his decision to resume on September 26, citing the cultural significance of the event.

At Thursday’s plenary, the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi, read Makinde’s letter of resumption to lawmakers, who unanimously endorsed the governor’s decision.

The letter read in part, “I shall resume duty today, September 26, 2025, and hereby assume the full functions of the Office of Governor of Oyo State.”

Makinde explained that cutting short his vacation was necessary to honour a historic moment in Ibadan’s cultural heritage.

He thanked his deputy, Bayo Lawal, who had served as acting governor since August 29, for what he described as effective leadership during his absence.

“With my resumption, the deputy governor will now return to his substantive role,” the letter stated.

Members of the Assembly commended the governor’s action, describing it as a demonstration of respect for Yoruba tradition and Ibadan’s revered monarchy.

They reaffirmed their support for traditional institutions and praised the executive arm for proactive steps taken to ensure a smooth coronation ceremony.
