Nigerian lawyer cum activist, Deji Adeyanju, has opined that the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, has been reduced to nothing by karma.
Naijaonpoint reports that this comes as Malami and his son are to remain in Kuje prison till January 7, when their bail applications would be decided.
Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order after hearing arguments for and against the bail applications of the three defendants, who are on trial for the ₦9 billion corruption charges brought by the federal government.
In a post via 𝕏 handle on Tuesday, Adeyanju said Malami never believed in the rule of law while in office and never obeyed court orders as AGF.
He wrote: “Malami didn’t believe in rule of law even as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and didn’t obey several court orders as AGF.
“Look at him today, reduced to absolutely nothing by karma. Those in power always forget they will soon be out of power.”
In related news, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing prosecution of Malami.
In a statement on his 𝕏 account, Moghalu said that Malami’s Tuesday arraignment, alongside his son and wife, on 16 counts of alleged money laundering involving billions of naira, shows the fleeting nature of power in Nigeria.
He noted that public office has become increasingly detached from competence and integrity.
He wrote, “By now anyone taking public office in Nigeria should understand the transience of power, especially in a country where public office has progressively become uncoupled from competence, ideology, or values such as integrity. When people carry on in office like tomorrow will never arrive, the hunters will become the hunted.”
