A Nigerian man, Ubong Uwak, has faced severe backlash after beginning a search for a new partner just weeks before his late wife’s burial.
Uwak, 41, took to a Facebook group for Christian singles on July 9, 2025, to introduce himself and declare his interest in finding a “God-fearing sister.”
..., made in the God Fearing Singles group, came despite preparations being underway for the burial of his late wife, Glory Ubong Uwak, scheduled for August 1 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
“Good morning God-fearing faithfuls. I’m Ubong Uwak from Nigeria, 41yrs. Widower, no kids yet, hoping to have someday. Let’s praise God together. Feel free to message. New here. I need a God-fearing sister,” he wrote.
Just days later, on July 20, Ubong posted the obituary flyer of his late wife on his personal Facebook page, mourning her loss and expressing pain over her untimely death.
“Princess, I can’t still place my hands on what happened. But God will avenge your death. God be with you till we meet again. I will love you till eternity. Rest on,” ... read.
The couple reportedly got married in 2020 and had no children. The cause of Glory’s death remains unclear.
Social media users were quick to react to Ubong’s posts, with many questioning the timing and sincerity of his mourning.
One Facebook user, Sandra Okereke, commented, “Dear Young Woman. Please, don’t go and die for nothing o. Dear Glory is yet to be buried but just imagine what the husband of her youth is doing on Facebook! Glory’s death is still questionable o. It is well. Just imagine what Men are doing.”
While some users expressed sympathy for Ubong’s loss, others condemned what they saw as insensitivity.
