Man in court over alleged theft of N2.4m in foreign currencies

One Ai-doko Emmanuel, 21, on Monday, appeared before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, over  alleged breaking into a house and stealing $500 and £780 (N2.5 million).

Emmanuel, whose address was provided, however,pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec.24, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at No. 30 Bamishebi Road, Itele, Ota.

Adaraloye alleged that the defendant entered into the bedroom of the complainant, Erivea Kuti, and stole $500 and £780.

The prosecutor explained that the housemaid of the complainant saw the defendant in her employer’s room.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.O.Fadairo,granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety in like sum.

Fadairo said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed .

She also said that surety must produce evidence of payment of tax to Ogun Government.

The case was adjourned until July 17 for delivery of judgement. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
