Manchester United‘s latest signing Bryan Mbeumo has listed Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, amongst the current crop of Africa’s best players, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 25-year-old just completed a move to the Theatre of Dreams after spending the last five years with Brentford.

His Premier League output in the 2024/2025 season played a huge role in his big move as he scored 20 goals and provided eight assists in 38 top-flight games for the Bees.

Mbeumo was born in France, and represented them Internationally at youth level before switching allegiance to represent Cameroon in 2022. He’s gone on to score six goals in 22 caps for the Lions.

Mbeumo ranks African Players

The Manchester United winger was asked for his opinion on the top-three African Players of all-time, and he opted for Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o and Ivory Coast duo – Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure.

“Of course, I looked up to Eto’o. He’s a striker as well. He was scoring goals as well, and that was what I wanted to do when I was young, scoring goals and trying to help the team to win and I think he was a very good inspiration,” the left-footed right-winger said in an interview with Rio Ferdinand.

Quizzed about the top three African players at present, Mbeumo picked Liverpool’s talisman – Mohammed Salah. While Super Eagles’ Ademola Lookman and Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi come behind the Egyptian.

“For now, Salah, Lookman, and Achraf Hakimi. He’s the best right back in the world,” the former Brentford man concluded.
