Marcus Jordan, the son of basketball legend Michael Jordan, has managed to avoid severe punishment after entering into an agreement with prosecutors.
According to court documents, the 33-year-old must complete 50 hours of community service, pay a monthly supervision fee, and have an interlock device installed in his car to monitor his driving.
He’s also required to make a $1,000 donation to an approved charity, submit to random drug testing, and write a 250-word apology letter to the arresting officer.
The charges stem from a March incident in Maitland, Florida, when police discovered Marcus’ car stuck on railroad tracks. According to the arrest report, officers said he showed signs of impairment, and body camera footage reportedly captured him telling police, “I’m Marcus Jordan! Michael Jordan’s son!”
Jordan was initially charged with DUI, resisting an officer, and possession of cocaine. A lab test later revealed the substance was ketamine, not cocaine.
By agreeing to the deal, Marcus waived his right to a speedy trial. If he fails to meet any of the terms, prosecutors could reinstate the case and move forward with prosecution.
