Skydance Games’ Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed. The news comes just minutes before another major, similar announcement: Grand Theft Auto 6‘s delay to later in 2026. Numerous games have been moving their release dates to make way for GTA 6, which is predicted to be an instant bestseller, and now it would seem release delay announcements aren’t safe either.
Skydance Games announced at 4:00 PM ET that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has been delayed to an unspecified date. It was just five minutes later, at 4:05 PM ET, that Rockstar Games made its announcement, immediately overshadowing the upcoming Marvel title. Rise of Hydra was initially slated for early 2026, and the announcement does not mention a new release window.

The “Ambitious Project” Will Share More In The Future
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra already suffered one delay earlier this year, when it was given its early 2026 release window. The project will now stay in development for even longer, with no indication from developer Skydance Games of when to expect its launch. “To fully realize our vision for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra,” reads the statement, “we’ve made the decision to shift our release window beyond early 2026.”
Skydance Games says that “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is an ambitious project, and we are committed to ensuring it meets the level of quality that our team, players, and fans expect.” The title focuses on Black Panther (T’Challa’s grandfatehr, Azzuri) and Captain America forming an uneasy alliance to fight the Nazis in Occupied Paris during the Second World War. The game is notably written and produced by Amy Hennig, perhaps most famous for serving as the creative director of the original Uncharted trilogy.
Marvel 1943 Gets Overshadowed By GTA 6 Delay
A Blessing In Disguise?
Delays are all-too-common in the modern gaming industry, but it’s not often two major, anticipated titles are delayed within minutes of each other. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was first revealed in 2022 with its cast of iconic Marvel characters, but exact details have remained relatively scarce with virtually no gameplay footage. It has, however, dazzled with its production value, utilizing Unreal Engine 5.4 for incredible visual fidelity – at least in trailers.
While delays are unfortunate, they’re often a good sign, but that doesn’t stop frustration from fans. Considering GTA 6‘s unprecedented hype, the near-simultaneous announcments could potentially work in Rise of Hydra‘s favor. It’s a major release from entertainment juggernaut Marvel, but it’s not on the same level as Grand Theft Auto. Skydance Games may have inadvertently dodged a proverbial bullet, and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra can continue its development while attention stays on GTA 6.
