Xbox Game Pass is about to get a lot livelier on December 1. Although the service is chock-full of AAA open-world adventures and plenty of shooters, there aren’t as many beat ’em ups on the service. That changes soon.

December will be one last push for the Xbox Game Pass service in 2025, as players navigate their lapsed subscriptions and an increased pricing scheme. Until that time actually runs out though, you should play everything you can, including this killer new addition coming up soon.

From the studio Tribute Games comes Marvel Cosmic Invasion, which is now confirmed as a day-one Xbox Game Pass release on December 1. It will be available on cloud, console, handheld, and PC, on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on that date. If you’re interested in playing it, you don’t have to wait for Microsoft to add it later on.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the studio, Tribute Games has quite the pedigree since its 2011 founding, including Wizorb, Mercenary Kings, and TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. They typically produce and publish games that have a retro aesthetic, with their own artistic spin.

If You Love Beat ‘Em Ups, You’ll Want To Check It Out

With a beat ’em up framework, you’ll take on tons of rogues from the Marvel universe, spanning multiple planets and worlds. The confirmed roster includes X-Men like Storm and Wolverine, as well as other classic Marvel characters like Spider-Man and Venom. Unlike many other Marvel games that tend to focus on the MCU or one aspect of the Marvel universe, this roster truly is “cosmic” in nature.

If it’s anything like Tribute Games’ prior work, there will be plenty to unlock and discover throughout the course of the game. Having played a demo of the game, I can clearly see where they’re going with the formula, and it seems to even improve upon Shredder’s Revenge in multiple ways – especially when it comes to clear progression and unlocks.

Whatever side of the old school beat ’em up fence you sit on, Marvel Cosmic Invasion will be available to play on Xbox Game Pass day-one when it arrives on December 1. I can’t wait to see how deep it digs into the Marvel universe.
