Warning! Spoilers for The Last Wolverine #1 ahead!
Marvel has officially debuted the new “Wonderful Wolverine,” the former mentor of Logan and future heir to the iconic hero’s moniker and costume. In Marvel’s Age of Revelation future, Logan is the villain’s brainwashed Angel of Death, and it seems inevitable that his replacement, Leonard, will have to stand up to his former mentor as part of his heroic journey.
The Last Wolverine #1 is written by Saladin Ahmed, with art by Edgar Salazar. The preview for the issue shows Leonard in action as Wolverine for the first time, as he bursts onto the scene in order to save kids from a burning building.
Based on the kids’ reaction, it seems “Wonderful Wolverine” is well-liked by the people of Vancouver.

Leonard was introduced as Marvel’s new Wendigo in last year’s Wolverine #2; the start of the rebooted series, from writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Martín Cóccolo, featured Wolverine tangling with the young Wendigo, before ultimately taking him under his wing. Now, almost exactly a year later, Leonard has officially become Wolverine.
Not just that. The Last Wolverine #1 dubs him “Wonderful Wolverine.” This makes it clear that Leonard is an unabashed hero, and he is celebrated as such in his community. This is a stark contrast to how the OG Wolverine is often portrayed, making it all the more meaningful that Wonderful Wolverine’s biggest adversary will be his old mentor.
In the preview for The Last Wolverine #1, despite being stuck in a burning building, the adolescent characters are both amazed and excited to see the Wonderful Wolverine come to their rescue. The scene is deliberately evocative of early 20th-century superhero stories, declaring the new Wolverine as a “classic” hero from the get-go.

Despite being a newcomer on the Marvel Comics scene, Leonard the Wendigo, now the Wonderful Wolverine, has been thrust into a position of prominence in the Age of Revelation storyline. It says a lot that Marvel was willing to invest so much in the new character, and suggests he has an ongoing future in Marvel canon.
That is, if he survives an encounter with the original Wolverine, who is now Revelation’s deadliest assassin. Readers have already seen him do what he does best in the early issues of the Age of Revelation crossover, and The Last Wolverine promises to put a spotlight on Logan as an antagonist, as much as it makes Leonard a star as the Wonderful Wolverine.
The Last Wolverine #1 will be available October 22, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
