While an X-Men reboot is in the works for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 2026 will see the return of the Fox version of the mutants in Avengers: Doomsday. Even though The Multiverse Saga has had several cameos from the X-Men actors, a proper reunion is happening next year when they join forces with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Famke Janssen, who portrayed Jean Grey in the original X-Men trilogy, talked about how many outlets have been asking about not being in Avengers: Doomsday. The Marvel alum stated, “Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. It’s interesting. I didn’t realize that was such a big part.”
She further elaborated, Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.” But when directly asked if she had been approached by Marvel Studios, Janssen flat out said, “Never. Never ever.”
Set to show up from the original X-Men movies are Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden, as Professor X, Magneto, Nightcrawler, Mystique, and Cyclops, respectively. They were revealed to be part of the line-up on Marvel Studios’ surprise live-stream on March 26, 2026.
While the Avengers: Doomsday cast has completed principal photography as of September 19, 2025, Kevin Feige revealed during CinemaCon back on April 3 that they haven’t revealed the entire line-up, meaning more reveals are set to happen. Even though he wasn’t in the original films, Channing Tatum will be back as the X-Men mutant, Gambit, from Deadpool & Wolverine.
With production done on the fifth Avengers installment, the MCU timeline still has Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be the final film for Phase 6 and the conclusion to The Multiverse Saga. Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026.
