Marvel Wants Cyclops to Become the Next Wolverine

When it comes to the X-Men, there is one rule you cannot afford to break: do not mess with Wolverine. For decades now, Marvel has touted Wolverine as one of its superstars, and he has been a key reason for the X-Men‘s growth. Now, a new era is rising at Marvel as the company claims it has found its next Wolverine.

Who might it be, you ask? Well, you already know the guy if you love all things X-Men. At New York Comic Con, Marvel’s Tom Brevoort confessed he plans to make Cyclops into the next Wolverine fate allowing.

Cyclops Is About to Get His Own Wolverine Moment

According to Brevoort, the editor said Cyclops’ upcoming solo series will give Scott Summers the star treatment he’s overdue for. “I’m super excited about this book… The intention with this was to do for Cyclops… was to do a Cyclops story that was the equivalent of the original Wolverine limited series that tells you everything you need to know about this guy in one story,” he shared (via PopVerse)

Continuing, Brevoort also dropped some key information about Cyclops ahead of its 2026 launch. The solo series will be action packed as Cyclops will find himself on the run following a plane crash. Saddled with a young mutant, Cyclops must protect himself and the kid from a horde of unseen enemies, and that kind of drama just speaks for itself.

“So the book is, Cyclops, he’s in a plane crash. His visor is shattered. He’s got a young mutant that he’s got to protect and shepherd to safety as they are hunted through the woodlands by the Reavers. It’s super cool, and I can’t wait for you guys to take a look at it.”

Wolverine vs Cyclops: The Rivalry That Never Ends

First introduced in September 1963, Cyclops has been an integral hero to the X-Men for decades. The character is often depicted as an authoritarian foil to Wolverine who lets rage guide him more often than not. Marvel loves nothing more than to put the two heroes at odds, so it makes sense that Cyclops would be the hero to replace Wolverine, even if just temporarily.

Wolverine’s place in pop culture is firmly cemented, but Cyclops has a long way to go. Professor Xavier, Storm, and even Beast are definitive icons amongst the general population, but Cyclops has struggled to garner similar fame. Despite being a genius tactician and brilliant hero, Cyclops is often relegated as a goody hero who puts the mission above his comrades. Now, it seems Marvel is ready to lean into Cyclops’ renegade roots as the publisher prepares to roll out the hero’s own solo series next February.

Cyclops #1 will hit shelves in February 2026.
