Warning! Spoilers for Amazing X-Men #1 ahead!
X-Men just teased a major secret, and fans are already worried it could mean the return of one of the franchise’s most controversial figures: Dark Beast. OG mutant hero Beast’s villain era was a point of contention for the X-Men fandom, and while it seemed like it had been left in the past, that might not be totally the case.
Amazing X-Men #1 is written by Jed MacKay, with art by Mahmud Asrar. The preview pages for the issue contain a curious moment in which it seems Beast might not be what he seems.
While Dark Beast would be the most shocking outcome, the alternative possibility is that the future X-Men are hiding something.
X-Men Teases A Huge Beast Twist That Could Shake The Foundations Of The “Age Of Revelation” Crossover

Amazing X-Men #1’s hint that something is off with Beast in Age of Revelation is subtle. In passing, Beast refers to the mutant Animalia in a stiff, formal manner, as “Ms. Starkey.” She reacts with surprise, and so will readers who have followed their interactions in Jed MacKay’s X-Men, in which he routinely calls her by her first name, “Jen.”
This leads reformed villain and current X-Men member Schwarzschild to remark that Beast and Animalia “had a lot of history.” Here, one of two things happens. Either Beast catches Schwarzschild in a lie, or Beast almost exposes that he is pretending to be someone he is not. Either way, this is a major twist Amazing X-Men sets up.
In Age of Revelation Overture #1, it was revealed that the minds of Cyclops and Beast were transported from ten years into the past into their future bodies. According to Magneto, this was done because the two had been stripped of their ability to communicate by Revelation. Amazing X-Men #1 suggests there’s more to this story.

The simplest explanation is that the future X-Men, led by Magneto until his death, lied about future Beast being a “Babel,” the name for those stripped of their language faculties by Revelation. Age of Revelation Overture #1 described the future version of Beast’s mind as being “overwritten,” something his past self was displeased by.
The wilder theory, though, involves Dark Beast. X-Men’s Krakoan Era led Beast to become a villain, and ultimately to the villainous version’s alleged death. It is possible that the future X-Men grabbed the mind of the wrong Beast and pulled it into the future, which would have dire implications for Age of Revelation once revealed.
Dark Beast’s return would be a controversial twist for Age of Revelation, and would likely have long-lasting ramifications. Some X-Men fans aren’t ready for another tenure for Beast as a villain, but as one of the original and greatest X-Men, it is hard to deny he makes one of their most potent adversaries.
Amazing X-Men #1 will be available October 8, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
