Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially received defectors from the All Progressives Congress, APC, into the New Nigeria Peoples Party. NNPP.

The event took place on Friday at the Government House, Kano, with prominent politicians and their supporters from Dawakin Tofa constituency pledging loyalty to the NNPP.

This was revealed in a statement by the Governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf said the defection showed that his administration’s programmes and policies over the past two years were making real impacts.

He recalled that during the 2023 campaign, he visited all 44 local government areas, including Dawakin Tofa, and promised to bring the dividends of democracy to every part of the state.

“Dawakin Tofa is a crucial local government in our struggle, and I am the happiest person for this massive defection from the APC to the NNPP,” he declared.

He thanked the NNPP’s National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who also expressed happiness over the development.

The Governor mentioned some achievements in Dawakin Tofa, such as completing the five-kilometer road abandoned by the previous administration. He also promised to build a new school in the area.

He assured the new members that they would be fully integrated into the party without discrimination, warned against intimidation, and pledged to deliver more dividends of democracy.

Governor Yusuf also announced plans for a familiarization tour ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said there would be a policy change for the Dawanau International Market, which would be turned into an agency with a Managing Director and board for better management.

He praised the Local Government Chairman for generating N500 million internally and using it for projects, and promised to address all complaints raised.

Chairman of Dawakin Tofa Local Government Council, Hon. Anas Danmaliki, commended the Governor, noting that his administration completed projects in 15 primary schools and sponsored over 1,000 students in tertiary institutions.

NNPP State Chairman, Hon. Hashim Dungurawa, congratulated the defectors and said:

“God willing, just as Gwale supported you in 2023, Dawakin Tofa will do even better.”

Leader of the NNPP in Dawakin Tofa and Special Adviser on Publicity, Alhaji Ahmad Muhammad Speaker, said some of the defectors joined voluntarily and urged the government to complete abandoned projects in Dawanau and Tumfafi wards.

Representatives of the defectors, including Hon. Nura Tumfafi, Hon. Isyaku Dahiru Kwa, Alhaji Umar Ismail, Alhaji Abba Muntari, Sani Shafiu, Hussaini Adamu, Alhaji Abdullahi Ayuba, Magaji Ruba-Ruba, Sabo Adamu, and Abdullahi Sale Turaki, praised the Governor’s “giant strides in health, education, civil service, pensions, and human capital development.”

They also commended the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, and the Local Government Chairman, Anas Muktar Bello, for their service to the people.
