Kylian Mbappe has declined the suggestion from the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s legal committee to participate in a mediation with Paris Saint-Germain to resolve their ongoing conflict regarding unpaid wages and bonuses, Soccernet.football understands.
The 25-year-old France international reached out to the LFP’s legal committee on August 8th, seeking assistance to resolve his dispute with his former club. Mbappe claims that PSG owes him approximately €55 million in unpaid wages and bonuses.
However, the Paris giants disputed Mbappe’s claims, arguing that the forward had agreed to forfeit some of his earnings if he left as a free agent, an arrangement he followed when he departed the French capital at the end of his contract to join Real Madrid this summer.
Although the agreement was never formalized in writing, Mbappe publicly referred to it in January, stating;
“With the agreement I made with the president last summer, regardless of my decision (at the end of the 2023/24 season), we have succeeded in protecting all parties and ensuring calm at the club for future challenges, which is the most important thing.”
Earlier today, PSG acknowledged the LFP’s recommendation, revealing that they had been attempting “for many months” to mediate with their former player.
It remains to be seen whether the Paris-born forward and his former employers will be able to find common ground and resolve their issues. He enjoyed a trophy-laden career at the French capital, winning 15 trophies and scoring 255 goals in 305 appearances.
Following his slow start to the La Liga campaign, Mbappe announced himself to the Spanish top division on matchday 4 with a brace against Real Betis just before the international break.
The Frenchman will surely be looking to pick up from where he left off when Real Madrid take on Real Sociedad at the Reale Arena on September 14.
