Nearly 16 years after the cult classic Jennifer’s Body aired, star of the movie Megan Fox could be returning with a “fun and crazy” script.
In an interview with Deadline, Jennifer’s Body director Karyn Kusama spoke about a potential sequel and writer Diablo Cody, known for Juno, returning to bring a second movie to life.
Kusama: “I know she’s [Cody] working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it. I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”
Jennifer’s Body is a dark comedy and follows the story of two teenage girls as they go to a local bar to see a band who turn out to be satanic worshippers and sacrifice Fox’s character Jennifer because she’s a virgin. Jennifer doesn’t die quietly and returns with a taste for boys.
The cult classic wasn’t well received despite finding popularity years later. The film only has a rating of 47% on Rotten Tomatoes. Marketing was largely to blame, as well as the media’s depiction of Fox and Kusama was “just so grateful that the film managed to find its audience.”
Amanda Seyfried starred alongside Fox as Needy and was the heroine to go against her best friend turned psycho killer and put an end to her murderous rampage. At the end of Jennifer’s Body, we see Needy in some kind of prison/mental asylum and is floating above ground perhaps taking Jennifer’s powers when she killed her.
It’s unclear how Jennifer will return, but it’s very possible in the horror genre to resurrect a fallen villain. Needy now has powers which could come into play in the sequel and a final boss battle between the former friends.
Fox is known for her roles in Transformers, New Girl, and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Most recently, Fox has been announced to star in an upcoming movie titled Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 as the character Toy Chica.
It’s unclear if there is even a set plan to release Jennifer’s Body 2, but it’s widely known Seyfried and Fox are already eager to return to their roles.
