Memphis Bleek responded to a recent Dame Dash interview where the Roc-A-Fella co-founder alleged that Jay-Z used to write for him.
“I don’t think Bleek wanted to take over Roc-A-Fella. I don’t think he had the ability. Jay was writing a lot of his rhymes, so if Jay retired, that meant Bleek’s business would’ve ended too,” said Dame.
Brooklyn-born rapper Bleek came into the game back in the late ’90s as Jay-Z’s right-hand man and official protégé. Bleek was signed to Hov’s Roc-A-Fella Records and dropped four albums during his run—Coming of Age (1999), The Understanding (2000), M.A.D.E. (2003), and 534 (2005). In 1998, he launched Get Low Records and Warehouse Music Group in 2016, where he even signed Brooklyn’s own Casanova.
“He wilding right now, bro,” Bleek wrote on X, alongside crying-laughing emojis. “I wish—maybe I’d still be lit. And people said I was whack, so if Jay wrote for me, he whack too.”
