Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has addressed the issue of single mothers and the stigma often attached to them.
In a video captured online, she said, “Gone are the days when being a single mother was a stigma.” She stated that the children of single mothers are doing great things in life.
Iyabo made it known that men are chasing single mothers and are even begging us that they don’t want us to be a side chick. She said men want them to marry them because they have experience.
Iyabo added that if a man leaves them, another man will accept them. Using herself as an example, she said she is the President-General of the Single Mothers Association.
“Gone are the days when being a single mother was a stigma. Single mothers’ children are doing great things in life. Men are chasing single mothers. They are even begging us that they don’t want us to be a side chick. They want us to marry them because we have experience. If a man leaves you, another man will accept you. I am The President General of the Single Mothers Association”.
During her daughter’s baby shower, Iyabo had advised mothers and women on breaking the generational curse for their children. She cautioned women not to assume that because a certain thing happened to their mother, it would happen to them, and that it must happen to their children.
In a beautiful note to mothers, she stated that no amount of sacrifice or struggle can compare to the unconditional love their children will give back, as their love is a reflection of God’s love for you. She reminded them that God will never leave their side and that their children’s lives and devotion are a testament to His presence in their lives.
That wasn’t the first time Iyabo had sent a message to mothers. In a past post, she provided moral support and encouragement to single mothers, as she noted how single motherhood can be depressing, discouraging, upsetting, and rough.
Two years back, Iyabo shared her painful experiences of surviving as a single mother and being treated as a second-class citizen due to her failed marriage. Iyabo recounted how people called her all manner of names because of her failed marriage both in the movie industry and the world at large.
