Meta Quest 3s images leak suggesting an affordable VR headset

Official images of the Meta Quest 3s have leaked. Of all the places possible, it was Meta’s PC app, called the “Oculus Link” client that was responsible for the leak.

Meta Quest “3s” leak confirms the VR headset’s existence?

Meta hasn’t yet officially acknowledged the Meta Quest 3s. As the name suggests, it is a Virtual Reality (VR) headset, and Meta might position it below the Meta Quest 3.

Images of the Meta Quest 3s seem to have leaked online. These images, spotted and uploaded by UploadVR, were spotted inside the Windows Meta Quest Link PC software. The image is located deep in the asset folders of the Quest Link PC app, as indicated by a Reddit thread.

According to the leak, the Meta Quest 3s appears to be inspired by the previous generation of VR headsets Meta has launched. However, it is important to note that there’s no branding.

UploadVR claims the images reveal the Meta Quest 3s because a post on X shows images of accessories for the headset.

Multiple Chinese companies have started listing accessories for the Meta Quest 3s even though the VR headset isn’t official. Nearly every listing has similar images, strongly suggesting the latest leak reveals the VR headset from Meta.

When will Meta Quest 3s launch and how much will it cost?

Meta’s app accidentally leaking the images of a new VR headset suggests the company is readying it for launch. According to The Verge, Meta may launch a new product at the company’s Connect event that starts on September 25th.

Meta might not even name the upcoming product as the Meta Quest 3s. However, the leak confirms the as-yet-unannounced VR headset has front-facing cameras.

According to the images Meta hasn’t opted for the usual three pill-shaped camera cutouts. Instead, the camera array is clustered in two sets of three on the front cover of the device.

The Meta Quest 3s may sport a very aggressive price. According to some reports, Meta might even offer the VR headset for as low as $300. Meta is not launching a premium mixed-reality headset, which means it could be betting on an affordable VR headset.

To go that low on the selling price, Meta might not include physical controllers, forcing buyers to rely on gesture controls. Meta has been actively improving hand-tracking, which could allow users to simply ditch the physical controllers.
