Milly Alcock and Toni Collette unite for the upcoming survival film, Hot Mother. The thriller is written and directed by Lucy Knox, who was also responsible for a 2020 short film of the same name.
Hot Mother follows a daughter who goes to a spa with her mom to reconnect with each other. However, their relaxing getaway becomes a nightmare when they get locked in a sauna with no way out and no one around to rescue them. The mother-daughter duo must figure out a way to escape before it’s too late.
Hot Mother will be produced by Alex Coco, who was one of the producers of the Academy Award-winning film, Anora, and Carver Films. Along with starring in the movie, Collette will also serve as an executive producer through her company, Vocab Films.
The founders of Carver Films, Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw, praised Knox’s talent as both a director and a writer, as well as the actors. They also shared in a statement that they were thrilled to bring her vision to a larger audience as a feature-length film. “As producers with a strong track record of launching Australian filmmakers, we’ve been aware of Lucy’s exceptional talent as a writer-director for many years. She’s beyond ready to bring Hot Mother to life for audiences worldwide, with its thrilling screenplay and incredible cast.”
Coco also expressed his excitement regarding the upcoming movie, commending Collette, Alcock, and Knox. He added, “Lucy is a filmmaker’s filmmaker, exactly the directors that I’m most committed to working with. With our two lead actresses, this film will play wide globally, and introduce a new and fresh voice to the directing game.“
Collette is no stranger to horror. She has starred in some of the most critically acclaimed movies in the genre. She portrayed complex characters in major films such as Lynn Sear in The Sixth Sense and Annie Graham from Hereditary. She also played Evelyn Wade in Netflix’s limited series, Wayward.
Alcock is best known for her roles as Supergirl in James Gunn’s Superman and Young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones spinoff, House of the Dragon. However, she has also dabbled in horror before, too. Alcock was featured in the 2018 film, The School and a horror short titled, The Familiars, in 2020.
Filming for Hot Mother is set to begin in 2026. There is currently no release date for the film at the time of this article’s publication.
