The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the deadly attack in Oke-Ode, Kwara State, where armed men killed several residents, including community vigilantes and the Baale of Ogbayo.

In a post on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi described the incident as a “mindless act of violence” that has once again thrown the country into mourning.

He urged the federal government to treat the situation as a national emergency, warning that no Nigerian should be forced to live in fear within their own home.

“We cannot continue to normalise tragedy. My heart goes out to the governor and the people of Kwara State. I reassure you that you are not alone,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor extended his condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for God to grant them strength, while asking for peace for the souls of the departed.

At least 12 people, including the Baale of Ogbayo, lost their lives when gunmen stormed Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State early Sunday morning.
