Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the Anambra election, George Moghalu, has rejected the outcome of the November 8, 2025, poll, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) winner.
Naijaonpoint reports that Soludo defeated 15 other candidates, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
Moghalu addressed journalists on Sunday in his Nnewi office, barely six hours after the final declaration, insisting the exercise did not reflect the will of the people.
Describing the conduct of the poll as deeply flawed, Moghalu said the process was undermined by widespread irregularities, especially vote buying.
He said, “The November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, in my view, fell short of expectations. I hereby reject it in its entirety.
“I have contested in previous elections, but this one was different. The level of vote buying was alarming.”
The LP candidate also claimed that minors were seen carrying voter cards and that some were permitted to cast ballots.
He alleged, “Children who were not supposed to be carrying voter cards were openly seen with them and allowed to vote.
“These are issues that raise questions about the integrity of the process.”
Moghalu further alleged that in some polling units, voters complained that the Labour Party’s name appeared on the ballot without its logo, a development he said could have confused electors attempting to locate the party.
He said, “This is part of the disturbing reports we received from the field. These irregularities are too significant to ignore.”
The LP candidate said he would make a more comprehensive statement after receiving a detailed report from agents deployed across the state.
He said, “Once I get the full report of the election, we will analyse it and then determine our next course of action. But one thing is clear: I reject the result.”
He declined to confirm whether he would head to court, saying it would be “premature” to decide without reviewing all the evidence.
Responding to claims that some LP agents were missing from polling units, Moghalu said frustration over observed irregularities may have caused some to leave their posts.
