AS Monaco have placed Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare on their radar as they seek to bolster their attacking options during the January transfer window, Soccernet.ng reports.

However, the Genk forward is not their primary target, with the French side prioritising Sturm Graz’s Danish sensation, Mika Biereth.

According to reports from Foot Mercato, Monaco are keen to secure Biereth’s services after their key forward, Folarin Balogun, suffered an injury.

Biereth, 21, has been in scintillating form since joining Sturm Graz from Arsenal last summer for €5 million, netting 14 goals in 25 games.

Monaco and Biereth have reportedly reached personal terms, but the Austrian club’s hefty €20 million asking price has stalled negotiations.

In light of the impasse, Monaco have turned their attention to Arokodare, who is enjoying a prolific season with Genk in the Belgian Pro League.

The 24-year-old Nigerian has registered 14 goals and six assists in 22 matches across all competitions, making him one of the most sought-after goalscorers in Belgium.

Reports suggest Genk could be open to selling Arokodare for around €15 million—three times the fee they paid to acquire him from Amiens in 2021.

Arokodare’s contributions have propelled Genk to the summit of the Jupiler Pro League and caught the attention of several clubs, including Monaco.

The report notes that Monaco have already initiated discussions with Arokodare’s representatives. However, the Ligue 1 side has yet to table an official offer for the Nigerian striker.

While Monaco’s preference remains Biereth, Arokodare, who is the Belgian league’s top scorer, is viewed as a strong fallback option.

If a winter move doesn’t materialise, Arokodare is expected to attract further interest in the summer. For now, his performances continue to underline his value as one of the brightest talents in Belgian football.
