Two additional suspects have been formally charged in connection with last month’s high-profile robbery at the Louvre Museum, French prosecutors announced. Both deny any involvement in the heist
The new charges bring the total number of suspects formally implicated in the case to four, with authorities identifying the latest suspects as a 37-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman. They face accusations of organized robbery and conspiracy to commit organized robbery and have been remanded into custody. Meanwhile, three of the five individuals arrested on October 29 have been released.
On October 19, four masked thieves stole eight pieces of jewelry from the Louvre, the world’s most visited museum, valued at approximately $102 million. The robbery, which authorities said took just seven minutes, triggered nationwide outrage and a large-scale manhunt. The stolen items remain missing.
Authorities have already apprehended two other suspects attempting to flee the country—one at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport en route to Algeria, and the other preparing to travel to Mali. Investigations into the heist are ongoing.
