Mother my biggest influence – Dabota Lawson
Dabota Lawson, the powerhouse behind Dabota Cosmetics, is a name synonymous with beauty and entrepreneurial spirit. From her reign as Miss Nigeria UK in 2010 to establishing a thriving cosmetics empire, Lawson’s journey is a testament to ambition and resilience.
Reflecting on her crowning moment, Lawson recalls, “Winning Miss Nigeria UK in 2010 was a defining experience. It validated my dreams and showed me I could achieve anything I set my mind to.” The competition, she emphasizes, was more than just a beauty pageant; it was a platform that opened doors, allowing her to network and delve into the beauty industry.
Another pivotal moment was the launch of Dabota Cosmetics. “Seeing a dream I worked so hard for come to life was incredibly emotional and fulfilling,” she shares.
Lawson credits her mother as her greatest influence. “Without a doubt, my mother has been my biggest influence. Watching her build her fashion business from the ground up showed me what it means to be passionate, hardworking, and determined.
She wasn’t just a businesswoman; she was a visionary who had a deep understanding of creativity and discipline. She taught me the importance of persistence, quality, and innovation—lessons that I’ve carried into my own journey as an entrepreneur,” she recalled.
Beyond her mother, Lawson draws inspiration from global beauty entrepreneurs like Pat McGrath and Rihanna. “They have shown that you can create beauty products that are both luxurious and inclusive,” she notes.
When it comes to fashion, Lawson’s most cherished accessories are statement handbags and jewelry. “A beautifully crafted handbag ties an entire look together and adds sophistication,” she explains, viewing them as investments that reflect personal style. “And a good pair of earrings or a bold ring can instantly transform even the simplest outfit.”
