Motorists stranded, one dead in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway multiple accidents

The accidents, which occurred outward Lagos on the Kara Bridge, involved container-laden trucks and several cars. In total, seven vehicles were affected, including:

A Volkswagen Bus (KJA436YD)

A Nissan Urvan (CO1203RS)

An articulated Mack Truck (T17083LA)

Another Mack Truck (no registration number)

A blue Iveco articulated truck (KMC594ZQ)

A Toyota Hiace Bus (14C241DT)

A Sino articulated truck (AAB440XC).

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), one person was confirmed dead and four others injured in the first accident, which occurred at midnight.

The Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, said, “The bus driver died instantly, and the park association took his corpse.”

The second accident occurred shortly afterward but fortunately recorded no fatalities.

The FRSC attributed the accidents to overspeeding, which resulted in a loss of control. Officials from the FRSC and police were at the scene working to clear the obstruction and ease traffic flow.

As of the time of this report, vehicular movement remained heavily disrupted, with motorists stranded as far back as the 7up area.

The FRSC commander assured motorists that recovery operations were underway, with professionals and necessary equipment being mobilized.

He urged motorists to remain calm, consider alternative routes, or reschedule their trips if possible while efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.
