Nollywood actress, Lilian Afegbai has revealed the difficulties she faced in the Nigerian film industry.

Naijaonpoint reports that Afegbai known for her role in the Netflix crime thriller To Kill a Monkey, spoke on how friends in the business repeatedly cast her as an extra despite her acting skills.

The 33-year-old actress explained that while playing a cameo role is normal, it became frustrating when those close to her in the production world regularly overlook her talent and assigned her only background parts.

When she reminded them of her professional status, they insisted she continue taking extra roles.

She said: “People that I know, friends in the production industry, casting me as an extra and not an actor.

“It’s different when you play a cameo in the film, but when it becomes a norm that your friends casting for a big production forget that you are an actor and when you remind them, they say you should come and play extra. They were comfortable with me playing extra.”

Lilian’s recent appearance as Idia in To Kill a Monkey marked an important point in her career.

The series, directed by Kemi Adetiba, tells a story about cybercrime, betrayal, and survival, featuring a well-known cast including Stella Damasus, Bucci Franklin and Chidi Mokeme.

Her role allowed her to display depth and strength, which many viewers have praised.
