My Little Pony’s Best Series Is Returning With the Sequel Fans Deserve

It’s hard to believe that My Little Pony brought its best series to a close six years ago. Following its launch in 2010, the world watched as My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic went from a cult hit to a global phenomenon. The show’s legacy stands firm in 2025 as kids who grew up in Equestria are now coming into their own as adults. Now, the series is preparing a major comeback as My Little Pony promises to check in on Twilight Sparkle and the gang ASAP.

That is right. My Little Pony just found a new home to bring forward a Friendship Is Magic sequel. Publishers Weekly confirmed the license for My Little Pony is now at BOOM! Studios. The publisher confirmed its big plans for the hit IP as new comics are being planned which tie into Friendship Is Magic.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Is Eyeing a Comeback

Michael Kelly, a current director at Hasbro, told Publishers Weekly that BOOM! Studios will expand both the story and demographic for My Little Pony with its new projects. “There is deep storytelling and strong characters that appeal to a wide audience. It just happens to star pastel-colored ponies that are girls,” he shared.

“The complex sequential storytelling [of the comics] will keep it above a certain age, but it could appeal to those as young as eight if they’re comfortable in the medium.”

At this point, no official series announcements have gone live regarding this license. My Little Pony is joining BOOM! Studios at a busy time, after all. Earlier this year, Hasbro confirmed a deal with the publisher to bring Jem and the Holograms to life with new comics. My Little Pony is the next Hasbro IP to move over, and this follows a number of other transitions. Previously, IDW oversaw these franchises with Hasbro including other hits like Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons & Dragons, and more. Now, Hasbro’s licenses have spread across a number of publishers, creating an exodus of sorts from IDW.

My Little Pony Is Ripe For a Nostalgic Sequel

While plans for My Little Pony‘s future are being kept lowkey, fans of the hit series are happy to see it return. The fantasy franchise has been around since the early ’80s, but My Little Pony exploded in popularity when Lauren Faust brought Friendship Is Magic to life. The adventure fantasy gave My Little Pony a modern makeover that delved deep into Equestria as well as its horses. Within weeks, characters like Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash became household names with viewers. Fans young and old were quick to tune into the animated hit, giving the series fodder for nine total seasons.

Following the show’s close, My Little Pony has kept busy with a new generation of titles. Still, there is no denying the nostalgia that exists for Friendship Is Magic. The kids who grew up watching the show are now adults, and they’re certainly eager to revisit the series that defined their youths. And thanks to BOOM! Studios, My Little Pony will be able to take fans on that journey very soon.
