The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said that scores of armed bandits, including several notorious kingpins, were killed during a coordinated air and ground offensive in Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on August 10 under Operation Fasan Yamma, targeted Makakkari Forest, where intelligence reports had tracked the movements of over 400 bandits allegedly preparing to attack a farming community.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, in a statement on Monday, said the mission combined precision airstrikes with ground troop manoeuvres to deliver what he described as “a decisive blow” to the criminals.
“Our Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) confirmed the massing of over 400 bandits, who were planning to invade a farming community. This prompted a coordinated strike by both air and land forces,” Ejodame said.
He added, “The synergy between the air and land components was exceptional. Several notorious kingpins were neutralised alongside scores of their foot soldiers, effectively disrupting their operational capacity in the area.”
Ejodame noted that the air force would “sustain aggressive operations” against criminal gangs across the North-West, stressing that the latest strike was part of broader efforts to secure rural communities ahead of the harvest season.
