NAFDAC Issues Public Alert on Circulation of Counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over the circulation of counterfeit Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet milk across Nigeria.

The counterfeit product was reported by Promasidor Nigeria Ltd, the authorized manufacturer of Cowbell products, which confirmed that the fake items closely resemble the genuine Cowbell sachets but are not produced or distributed by the company.

According to NAFDAC, the packaging design used on the counterfeit product was last used for production in September 2023, further confirming that the items in circulation are fake.

Health Risks

NAFDAC warns that consuming counterfeit Cowbell milk poses serious health and safety risks, including:

  • Foodborne illnesses

  • Allergic reactions

  • Exposure to toxic chemicals or unapproved additives

  • Organ damage or, in extreme cases, death

Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable.

All NAFDAC zonal directors and state coordinators have been instructed to conduct surveillance and mop up counterfeit products within their jurisdictions.

  • Report suspected counterfeit products or adverse reactions immediately.
