Napoli should make Super Eagles ‘all-rounder’ a priority target this summer – Here’s why

Former Italian striker Antonio Cassano has urged reigning Serie A champions Napoli to go all out and try to poach Super Eagles attacking gem Ademola Lookman from league rivals Atalanta ahead of the upcoming season, Footynaija.com reports.

Lookman’s name is one that has been constantly mentioned in several transfer reports in recent months with the reigning African Player of the Year looking poised to secure a departure from Atalanta before the close of the current transfer window.

With the player ready to explore a new challenge and La Dea not particularly averse to letting him go, several potential moves have been mooted by numerous media outlets. Serie A rivals Juventus and Napoli have even been touted as potential landing spots for the Nigerian amid talks of a Premier League return.

Napoli are thought to be in the market for a new attacker this summer as Antonio Conte looks to try and plug the gap created by Khvika Kvaratskhelia’s 2025 winter transfer window departure to current European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

However, despite numerous speculations pitting the Super Eagles star and Napoli in the same report, there has been no serious effort on the part of the Partinopei to try and take Lookman to Naples. And for Cassano, the 27-year-old’s ability to do everything in attack would make him “a sensational” signing for Conte’s side.

“I would go and get Lookman , it would be a sensational purchase,” the former AS Roma striker said in quotes revealed by Tifo Juventus. “He runs, scores, makes assists, and is trained by a great player like Gian Piero Gasperini.”

Lookman was one of Atalanta’s standout players last season with 20 goals and 6 assists to his name. His experience in the Italian top-flight over the last three years will definitely come in handy for Conte’s Napoli if the Partenopei decide to heed Cassano’s advice.

Already familiar with the league, Lookman’s numbers (39 goals in 93 Serie A outings) over the years tell their own story. Unlike other rumoured players of interest like Manchester United’s Alenjandro Garnacho and Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, Lookman will not need any adaptation time and can hit the ground running immediately.
