NAPTIP invites Speed Darlington over minor sex claim

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has summoned controversial musician Darlington Okoye, widely known as over a viral claim involving a minor.

The summons follows alarming statements made by the rapper during a recent Instagram Live session, where he alleged that he had engaged in a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.

The claim triggered widespread outrage and calls for a legal probe.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) subsequently reported the incident to NAPTIP, urging a full investigation into the matter.

In response to the backlash, Speed Darlington released a video claiming his statement was a publicity stunt for an upcoming song. He also apologized for any harm or distress caused by his comments.

Nevertheless, in a statement issued Thursday, NAPTIP confirmed it had summoned the artist for questioning. The agency warned that failure to comply could lead to legal consequences.

“NAPTIP remains committed to protecting the rights of minors and will ensure thorough investigations and appropriate actions in all cases involving alleged sexual abuse or exploitation,” the agency stated.
