The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of Umar Ahmed-Chuso as the 30th Commissioner of Police in the state.
Ahmed-Chuso succeeds Shetima Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel, said the new CP brings extensive operational experience, administrative capacity and a record of professional service to his new assignment.
Nansel noted that Ahmed-Chuso has appealed for sustained cooperation from residents to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and improve security across the state.
An indigene of Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Ahmed-Chuso holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He joined the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a Cadet ASP and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
The new CP has served in several strategic positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Kano; Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), Kano; and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), Delta State.
He has also served as DPO in multiple divisions and was the pioneer Area Commander of Argungu in Kebbi State.
His career further includes postings at the Force CID (Interpol) Abuja, and roles such as Divisional Crime Officer, Officer-in-Charge of Pay, and Directing Staff at the Police College, Kaduna.
According to the Command, Ahmed-Chuso has attended various local and international courses, including Tactical Leadership and Combat, Citizenship and Leadership Training, Higher Military Strategy at the Army War College, Abuja, and Protection of Human Rights at Texas Southern University, Houston.
He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies.
Nansel said the new CP urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and religious organisations to support the police with timely information to prevent crime and ensure a swift response to threats.
He assured residents of the Command’s renewed commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining peace across Nasarawa State.
