#EndHunger Protesters Block Keffi-Abuja Highway, Demand Government Action

Protesters advocating for an end to hunger, bad governance, and the high cost of living have blocked the Keffi-Abuja highway, causing major disruptions for motorists. The protests, which are scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024, aim to press the Nigerian government to address these critical issues.

Initially, Nasarawa youths had opted out of the protest, but they joined the demonstration later in the day. The protesters, numbering in the thousands, have not only obstructed the highway but also set fires on the roads and threatened motorists who refused to turn back. Many carried placards demanding an end to bad governance and the reinstatement of fuel subsidies.

Reports indicate that the protests are concentrated on the outskirts of Keffi, with both sides of the highway completely blocked, effectively halting vehicular movement.

In Mararaba, part of the Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, the protest has escalated into violence. Our correspondent reports that the area is witnessing significant unrest, including the burning and looting of shops along the express road.

The ongoing demonstrations reflect the growing frustration among Nigerians over economic challenges and governance issues, as citizens seek immediate and tangible responses from their leaders.
