Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan successfully entered the National Assembly premises in Abuja on Thursday, overcoming an initial attempt to block her access.

The senator, currently serving a six-month suspension by the Senate, had vowed to resume her legislative duties following a court ruling directing the upper lawmaking body to recall her.

On Thursday morning, Senator Natasha’s convoy was halted at the entrance to the National Assembly, preventing her from entering.

The lawmaker, travelling in a black car, was stopped alongside a vehicle carrying activist Aisha Yesufu. Undeterred, Senator Natasha alighted from her car and proceeded on foot, accompanied by supporters, to gain entry into the National Assembly complex.

The incident follows a contentious period for the senator, who has been at odds with the Senate leadership over her suspension.

The court’s verdict in her favour has intensified debates about her right to resume her legislative role, with her determination to return underscoring broader tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape.
