Nathan Tella facing another injury spell after forced exit in Leverkusen vs Berlin stalemate

Super Eagles star Nathan Tella could be set for another spell on the sidelines after his time on the pitch during Bayer Leverkusen’s goalless draw with Union Berlin was cut short following an injury scare, Footynaija.com reports.

Tella was involved in an collision with Union Berlin goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow while both players contested for loose ball in the 36th minute of the game.

The Nigeria international picked up a knock from that collision and seemingly went on to aggravate matters following an awkward landing in the 43rd minute.

Unable to continue after half-time, Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso replaced Tella with Morocco international Amine Adli for the remainder of the match as the reigning Bundesliga champions struggled to find a breakthrough against their stubborn visitors.

Following the conclusion of the match, Alonso confirmed that Tella could not continue due to a suspected injury but the club was still awaiting a diagnosis.

“Nathan is in the hospital for a check-up and will undergo some tests. He was dizzy, and we’re still waiting for the results,” the Spanish tactician said in quotes revealed by Rotowire.

This latest setback comes at a frustrating time for Tella, who only just regained his fitness a couple of weeks ago after being forced to pull out from the Super Eagles squad that faced Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March due to injury.

Leverkusen, having missed the chance to close in on Bayern Munich after the Bavarians were held to a 2-2 draw by Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, will be hoping Tella’s setback is nothing too serious.
