WATCH THE VIDEO HERE THE National Assembly has responded strongly to recent remarks made by Pastor Tunde Bakare, describing his comments about the legislature as biased and misleading. Bakare, who leads The Citadel Global Community Church, had on Sunday criticized the Senate’s suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the National Assembly’s endorsement of emergency rule in Rivers State. He accused both the executive and legislative arms of engaging in what he called “institutional immorality Olympics.” In response, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, issued a statement today condemning Bakare’s remarks. He stated that while citizens have the right to voice their opinions, Bakare’s statements had crossed the line. “Though the Senate respects every citizen’s right to express views on national issues, we must respond when such comments devolve into baseless attacks and misrepresentations that could erode public trust in our democratic institutions,” Adaramodu said. He described Bakare’s criticism as “a biased and politically charged sermon disguised as a public commentary.” Referencing President Bola Tinubu’s presentation of the 2024 budget to the National Assembly on November 29, 2023, Adaramodu further criticized Bakare for making assertions rooted in personal grievances, ideological bias, or potential political ambitions. “These kinds of remarks are not only unjust but also detrimental to our shared democratic progress,” he said. He concluded by expressing hope that Pastor Bakare would eventually recognize the efforts and performance of the 10th National Assembly, especially when viewed within the context of the current national challenges.
