The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved a comprehensive redeployment involving 65 Rear Admirals across key formations of the Nigerian Navy, the Defence Headquarters, and Tri-Service institutions, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and maritime security.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Ayiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who described the changes as part of efforts to reposition the Navy for improved performance and synergy among its commands.
Adams-Aliu said, “...ings are designed to strengthen operational effectiveness and enhance the Navy’s maritime security posture.
“They reflect the Chief of the Naval Staff’s commitment to repositioning the Service for improved coordination and performance.”
Among the new appointments, Rear Admiral Suleiman Abdullahi, formerly at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), now serves as Chief of Logistics at the Naval Headquarters (NHQ).
Similarly, Rear Admiral Kasim Bushi has been moved from the Headquarters Naval Training Command to the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria as Executive Director.
Other notable postings include:
Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun — appointed Director of Defence Cooperation, DHQ.
Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed — named Commandant, National Defence College.
Rear Admiral Musa Katagum — now Chief of Operations, NHQ.
Rear Admiral Fredrick Damtong — appointed Chief of Naval Engineering, NHQ.
Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna — becomes Chief of Training, NHQ.
New Flag Officers Commanding
Commodore Adams-Aliu also announced the appointment of new Flag Officers Commanding (FOCs) for major naval commands:
Rear Admiral Abiodun Alade — FOC, Logistics Command.
Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha — FOC, Western Naval Command.
Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie — FOC, Eastern Naval Command.
Rear Admiral Suleiman Ibrahim — FOC, Central Naval Command.
Additionally, Rear Admiral Mohammed Muye was appointed Commandant, Naval War College Nigeria, while Rear Admiral Abdul-Hamid Baba-Inna is now the Navy Secretary.
Vice Admiral Abbas, while congratulating the newly appointed officers, charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them and to remain committed to their duty to the nation.
