The Federal Government, through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has invited all domestic airlines to an emergency meeting in Abuja following a string of flight disruptions and rising incidents of unruly passenger behaviour.

The meeting, scheduled for Wednesday at the NCAA headquarters, was confirmed in a statement by the agency’s Director of Public Relations and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, via his official 𝕏 handle on Tuesday.

Achimugu disclosed that the session would address a range of persistent issues troubling the aviation sector.

“The NCAA has invited all domestic airlines to a meeting in Abuja slated for tomorrow, Wednesday,” he said.

According to him, discussions will focus on unruly passenger behaviour, handling protocols, unresolved refund and compensation complaints, and other pressing challenges facing airlines and travellers alike.

Naijaonpoint reports that the summons comes barely 24 hours after Achimugu warned that the regulatory authority had received a mandate from the Federal Government to begin naming and shaming airlines notorious for delays and cancellations.

In a post on 𝕏 on Monday, he said the NCAA would no longer tolerate repeated disruptions that inconvenience passengers, adding that sanctions would be imposed on erring operators.

Nigeria’s aviation industry has recently faced heavy criticism as flight cancellations, poor communication, and inadequate compensation measures have left passengers frustrated.

These issues have sparked incidents of passengers protesting at airports, sometimes leading to confrontations with airline staff.

By bringing airlines together, the NCAA hopes to enforce stricter compliance with consumer protection rules while restoring public confidence in air travel.
