Ned Leeds' Spider-Man: Brand New Day Return & Character Design Officially Addressed By Jacob Batalon

Jacob Batalon just teased new details about his character in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor has appeared in every Spider-Man film that’s officially part of the MCU, including Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, as well as cameos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He’s returning to the MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which arrives in theaters this summer.

While being interviewed on SiriusXM‘s The Morning Mash Up, Batalon seemed hesitant to share any details about the next Spider-Man film, but he did reveal that his character, Ned Leeds, has hair in Brand New Day. “But that’s probably the most I could say,” he added. In real life, the actor is bald.

The hosts then joked that Marvel might punish him for spoiling the movie, and Batalon imitated studio executives by saying, “We knew you were the leak. We knew it.”

Batalon’s breakout role in the entertainment industry came via Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017. Ned was Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s best friend, who got involved in Spidey’s grand adventures after discovering Peter’s true identity. In the sequel, Far From Home, Ned and his classmates embark on a European school trip, and he begins dating.

However, it was No Way Home in which Ned had his biggest role yet. After he, Peter, and MJ sought out Doctor Strange’s help, Ned used the sorcerer’s sling ring to open up portals, which resulted in the MCU’s Peter coming face-to-face with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the character.

The film ended with Doctor Strange wiping everyone’s memories so they wouldn’t remember Peter, a shocking development that will have huge ramifications.

After No Way Home was released, Batalon went on to appear in Shortcomings, Lift, Tarot, and Novocaine, and played the titular character in the series Reginald the Vampire, which aired for two seasons on Syfy and ended in 2024.

Now the actor is returning to the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has been shrouded in mystery ever since it was first greenlit. Not much is known about the plot, but Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Batalon are all back as Peter, MJ, and Ned, respectively.

Other MCU actors who will be appearing in the film include Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Michael Mando (Scorpion), and Jon Bernthal (Punisher). Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III are also joining the cast.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of only two new Marvel films being released in 2026; the other is Avengers: Doomsday in December. Both are some of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Marvel Studios has already started releasing teasers for the next Avengers flick, but a Spider-Man trailer has yet to materialize. However, it won’t be long until the first trailer drops to reveal Peter, MJ, and Ned’s lives since No Way Home.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on Friday, July 31, 2026.
