The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved a total of ₦20,075,050,006.55 for distribution to 192,906 students across public universities and other tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

According to an update posted on X on Monday, the new disbursement is as at January 1, 2025.

This marks a significant milestone in the fund’s efforts to support students with financial assistance for their education.

Among the recipients, Bayero University in Kano leads with the highest number of beneficiaries, as 11,683 students are set to receive ₦1.3 billion.

The University of Maiduguri follows closely with 12,198 students approved for a total of ₦1.27 billion.

Other institutions benefiting from the loan include the University of Jos, where 6,988 students will share ₦941 million, and Federal University Dutsin-Ma, where 8,978 students will receive ₦909 million.

In addition, the University of Ibadan will disburse ₦746 million to 4,907 students, while 5,451 students at Federal University Dutse are slated to get ₦593 million.

Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto will provide ₦578 million to 6,480 students, and the University of Lagos will distribute ₦557 million to 3,685 students.

Meanwhile, smaller institutions also received disbursements, with Gombe State Polytechnic in Bajoga providing ₦122,000 to four students, and Abia State Polytechnic offering ₦106,300 to two students.

Other institutions with fewer beneficiaries include Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, which will disburse ₦214,116 to three students, and Kenule Benson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in Bori, which will allocate ₦315,500 to seven students.

The fund has previously stated that ₦110 billion has already been disbursed to students across the country, with NELFUND’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, confirming the update in December 2024.
