The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially closed its student loan application portal for the 2024/2025 academic session.
This means that new applications are no longer being accepted. Only students who successfully applied before the closing date will receive their approved tuition and upkeep payments.
According to NELFUND, the next phase of applications for the 2025/2026 academic session will commence in the second week of October 2025.
Meanwhile, NELFUND opened the 2024/2025 loan application portal on 22nd February 2025, allowing eligible students from federal and state-owned tertiary institutions to apply. The window officially closed at the end of September 2025.
So far, more than 500,000 students from federal universities and polytechnics have reportedly benefited from NELFUND’s loan disbursement since it began earlier this year.
What Students Should Do Next
Students who missed the deadline are advised to prepare required documents ahead of the next application phase in October. NELFUND has also urged applicants to verify their institutional details, BVN, and academic records to avoid disqualification in the next round
In a related update, NELFUND confirmed that upkeep payments for beneficiaries under the 2024/2025 session will continue until November 2025. However, existing beneficiaries must reapply for the new academic session to continue receiving financial support.
