THE Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, with the application period set to run from October 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026.
In a statement signed by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, the Fund expressed appreciation to tertiary institutions across the country for their cooperation and urged continued collaboration to ensure a smooth and inclusive loan process for all eligible students.
The statement directed tertiary institutions to update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, emphasizing that this is a vital step for successful loan applications.
To ensure a seamless rollout, the Fund confirmed that the loan application portal will officially open on Thursday, October 23, 2025, and close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
Eligible applicants include returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions.
Newly admitted students can apply using either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matriculation Number.
NELFUND also advised institutions to exercise flexibility with registration and tuition payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursements.
Students who have yet to commence their academic session are encouraged to formally notify NELFUND of their approved academic calendar to facilitate proper scheduling.
The Fund further appealed to schools to adopt temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are still being processed to ensure no student is denied access to education due to financial hardship.
