Nelly Furtado has revealed that Drake invited her to perform onstage at a recent Toronto show but had to turn his down…because it was too short notice.
“He asked me at 11 p.m. to show up at 1 a.m.,” she said on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
She continued, “I love him to death, but I was like, ‘I’m not showing up without glam.’ Because, of course, he’s so famous, it will be everywhere. I couldn’t make it that time, but anyways, I love him a lot. He’s a great guy. He really put Toronto on the map in a different kind of way and Canada in general.”
While she may not have been able to make the performance, the “Promiscuous Girl” singer says she hopes that one day they can collab on a track together.
Nelly Furtado first gained fame with her trip hop-inspired debut album, Whoa, Nelly! (2000), which was a critical and commercial success that spawned two top-10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, “I’m Like a Bird” and “Turn Off the Light”. The former won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Furtado’s third album, Loose (2006), was a smash hit and became her bestselling album, with more than 10 million copies sold worldwide, also making it one of the bestselling albums of the 2000s. The album spawned four successful number-one singles worldwide: “Promiscuous” (featuring Timbaland), “Maneater”, “Say It Right”, and “All Good Things (Come to an End)”. Her 2007 feature on Timbaland’s “Give It to Me” in the same era also topped the charts in the US and overseas.
