NEMA distributes food items to victims of rainstorm in Ekiti

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ekiti State Operations Office, on Wednesday distributed food items as a relief to victims of the recent rainstorm in the state.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ekiti State Operations Office, on Wednesday distributed food items as a relief to victims of the recent rainstorm in the state.

The relief is for the affected persons in Ijero, EKiti West and Efon Local Government Areas of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed included bags of rice and garri, vegetable oil, seasoning cube, spaghetti, salt, and tomato paste.

NAN also reports that the intervention was in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Mr  Omoleye Abiodun, Member, Federal House of Representatives .

Speaking, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, represented by the Head, Search and Rescue Unit, Mr Adesina  Abogunrin, expressed sympathy with the affected persons.

He re-assured them of the agency’s commitment to its mandate of providing timely and effective disaster response.

Umar said that there was need for the government, especially at the grassroots, to embark on radical sensitisation and initiate policies to build the resilience of communities in combating weather-related disasters.

Also, a Member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr Abiodun Omoleye, appreciated the Federal Government for the timely response.

He said that the items would go a long way to ameliorate the effect of the disaster on the victims.

On his part, the Ojurin of Ijurin , Oba Adeyemi Afolabi, on behalf of the beneficiaries appreciated the government through NEMA in cushioning the adverse effect of the disaster on his people, “at a time like this”.(NAN) (www.nannews.com)
