NetEase has announced its latest game in collaboration with Marvel called Marvel Mystic Mayhem. It’s a free-to-play team-based tactical RPG, so expect it to play a lot like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, or any other game you may have played that’s similar to that. The game should be available for both Android and iOS, however, there’s no mention of specific platforms.

NetEase hasn’t announced a release date yet, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone since the game was just announced. Marvel Mystic Mayhem puts players in control of a team of heroes and villains alike as they fight against a common foe. Nightmare, the lord of the Dream Dimension, has set his sights on the waking world and will stop at nothing to control it. The only thing that stands between him and his goals is you and your team.

Players will be able to form rosters with familiar superheroes like Scarlet Witch, Spider-Man, and Captain America. You know, the staples. The iconic characters that everyone knows. But you’ll also be able to team up with lesser-known characters like Moon Knight, Armor, and Sleep Walker. In fact there’s a whole collection of less popular heroes. There are even some characters who are generally lumped in with villains, like The Xmen’s Juggernaut, who you can add to your team.

Marvel Mystic Mayhem is a F2P game so that probably means microtransactions

It’s the way of the world with free-to-play games. The studios have to make money somehow, and that either means ads, microtransactions, or both. What remains uncertain is how heavy-handed the microtransactions will be. Rest assured though, they will exist. This is a team-based tactical RPG with heroes, after all. So there is a chance that at least some of those will cost money in some way. If not the already-announced heroes, then potentially future ones that have yet to be revealed.

There’s also the possibility that all heroes will be available through gameplay. With boosts, power-ups, and items being the money maker. Time will tell.

NetEase has released a trailer that shows off at least some gameplay

If you’re curious to see what the game looks like, there’s good and bad news. NetEase hasn’t really shown off a whole lot. In fact, it says surprisingly little about the game. However, it has released an announcement trailer that shows off some gameplay. You can view that trailer below if you haven’t seen it yet. The game’s art style is unapologetically comic book-esque and that seems pretty fitting given that it’s based on Marvel Comics.

There’s also some pretty cool-looking graphics and cutscenes for some of the abilities. So expect a visually appealing experience when and if you decide to play it. In addition to Marvel Mystic Mayhem, NetEase has also recently announced Destiny: Rising. The mobile Destiny game that was rumored for a while (and is actually happening) with an upcoming alpha test on November 1st. NetEase was initially the development team behind Diablo Immortal as well. A game that, for all its flaws in the beginning, was and is very fun to play.
