The MonsterVerse gets another installment with a sequel to Netflix’s 2023 animated series Skull Island. Kong’s MonsterVerse story started with Legendary’s blockbuster Kong: Skull Island, which not only spawned its crossovers with Godzilla but also the animated series Skull Island. The show provided a deeper look at the titular location, introducing new threats through the eyes of a new group of human survivors.

Escape from Skull Island marks the latest expansion of Legendary’s MonsterVerse in comic form, penned by Transformers writer Simon Furman and Young Justice artist Christopher Jones. Published by Titan Comics, the four-issue series is set to start on January 28, 2026, featuring covers by Maria Wolf, Christopher Jones, and Sunghan Yune. Escape from Skull Island continues Titan’s successful partnership with Legendary, following 2025’s Return to Skull Island, and will deepen the mythology of one of cinema’s most iconic monsters.

Escape From Skull Island kicks off with a new group of Skull Island survivors trapped on the titular kingdom, where they struggle against the island’s savage ecosystem. As chaos erupts and monstrous predators close in, a bigger threat arrives to threaten both the survivors and Kong. Parallel to the human characters’ story, Escape From Skull Island will explore Kong’s formative years through flashbacks.

As an official continuation of Netflix’s Skull Island animated series, Escape from Skull Island bridges the gap between the show and the wider MonsterVerse, enriching its lore while maintaining its pulpy adventure tone. It delves deeper into Kong’s backstory and his kingdom’s violent balance of power. Most notably, it also provides new insight into Skull Island’s extensive history and hierarchy.
